Verathyst

Crystallize your thinking.

A native macOS markdown vault. Write, organize, and protect your notes with end-to-end encryption. No accounts required.

Coming to the Mac App Store

A vault, not a service.

Verathyst is a markdown editor built for people who don't trust cloud services with their thoughts. Your notes live in an encrypted vault on your Mac — nowhere else.

No account creation. No syncing to a server. No company reading your journal entries to sell you ads. Just your words, encrypted before they ever touch the disk.

Write in markdown

Full markdown support. Headers, lists, code blocks, links, images. Everything you'd expect from a real editor.

Organize your vault

Folders, tags, search. Find what you need without exporting to a service or losing structure.

Close it. It's safe.

Quit the app. Everything is encrypted. Open it again — everything is still there. That's the whole interaction.

Encrypted before your words touch the disk.

Verathyst uses AES-256-GCM encryption, powered by Apple CryptoKit. Every note is locked with a key derived from your password using Argon2 — a memory-hard key derivation function that resists brute-force attacks.

The vault is a single encrypted file. Not a directory of individual files with metadata leaks. One container. One key. No side-channel information stored anywhere.

We use zero-knowledge architecture. That means even if someone — including us — had access to your vault file, they couldn't read it without your password. We built it this way because we believe software shouldn't need to know your business.

Pay once. Own it.

No subscriptions. No monthly fees. No "free tier" with hidden limitations. Verathyst is a one-time purchase.

You buy it, it's yours. No feature gates. No bait-and-switch. We think software should work this way.
